Please read these Terms of Service carefully before using AcademicTuning.
1. Service Description
AcademicTuning provides AI-powered feedback and formatting tools for students and teachers. Our tools include:
- Draft Feedback (structural and argument feedback on a draft you provide)
- Citation Formatter + Gap Detector (APA, MLA, Chicago formatting and citation gap detection)
- AI Content Detector (for teacher accounts: likelihood scoring and flagged passages for submitted text)
- Free tools: grammar checker, citation generators
Important: Every tool requires text you already have as input — a draft, a reference, or a submission. We do not generate essays, papers, or other academic work from a topic or prompt, and no feature is designed to do so.
2. Academic Integrity Disclaimer
We provide feedback, formatting, and detection tools only. Clients must submit original work and bear full responsibility for academic integrity.
By using our services, you confirm that:
- Any document you submit for Draft Feedback or citation formatting is your own original work
- You have the right to submit this document for AI analysis
- You understand that using our tools does not constitute authorship of your work
- You will comply with your institution's academic integrity policies
- You take full responsibility for how you use the feedback, formatting, or detection results
3. Client Responsibilities
You agree to:
- Submit only your own original work for student-facing tools
- If you hold a teacher account, upload student submissions only where you have the authority to review them under your institution's policies
- Provide accurate account information
- Comply with all applicable academic integrity policies, and where relevant, student-privacy laws (such as FERPA in the United States) that apply to your institution
- Not attempt to use our tools to generate submittable academic work from a topic or prompt
4. Service Limitations
Our AI tools will:
- Analyze structure, argument strength, and clarity in a draft you provide
- Format citations and detect citation gaps
- Score the likelihood that submitted text is AI-generated, and flag passages for review
Our AI tools will NOT:
- Write new content from a topic or prompt
- Conduct research on your behalf
- Guarantee any specific grade or outcome
- Issue an automatic penalty, report, or grade change based on AI-detection results — those results are advisory and require human review
5. AI Processing Disclosure
- Your submitted text is processed by third-party AI model providers to generate feedback, formatting, or detection results
- We do not use your submitted content to train our own models
- Our AI providers process your content under their own standard API terms; we do not control, and cannot guarantee, their internal data-handling practices beyond what they publicly commit to
- AI-generated feedback, scores, and detection results can be incomplete or incorrect — always use your own judgment
6. Subscriptions and Payment
- Access to paid features requires an active subscription, billed on a recurring basis through Stripe
- We offer a budget tier and a premium tier, routed to different underlying AI models
- Subscriptions can be canceled at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period
- We do not store your full payment card details — billing is handled entirely by Stripe
- Prices may change with advance notice; continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance
7. Refunds
- Refunds are issued at our discretion, generally limited to cases of billing error or service unavailability
- We do not offer refunds for change of mind, dissatisfaction with AI-generated feedback, or academic outcomes
- You may cancel your subscription at any time to stop future billing
8. Confidentiality and Data
- We do not sell or share your submitted content beyond what is necessary to generate your results (see Section 5)
- Your content is retained for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service
- You may request deletion of your account and associated content by contacting us
9. Intellectual Property
- You retain all rights to your original content
- AI-generated feedback, formatted citations, and detection results are provided for your use and do not transfer any ownership claim over your original work
- We may use anonymized, aggregated usage data to improve the service
10. Limitation of Liability
AcademicTuning is not liable for:
- Academic consequences of using our services, including consequences of relying on AI-generated feedback or detection results
- Grades or outcomes on submitted work
- Decisions made by academic institutions, including decisions based on AI-detection results reviewed by a teacher
- Indirect or consequential damages
Our maximum liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the twelve months preceding the claim.
11. Prohibited Uses
You may not use our services to:
- Submit work that is not your own for student-facing tools
- Upload another person's work without proper authorization
- Violate academic integrity policies
- Engage in plagiarism or academic fraud
- Attempt to use our AI tools to generate submittable academic work from a topic or prompt
- Any illegal purpose
12. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for anyone, including for suspected misuse of our AI tools to generate submittable work, or for suspected academic dishonesty.
13. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of updated terms.
14. Governing Law
These terms are governed by applicable laws. Any disputes will be resolved through arbitration.
